Rugrats Reboot Sample Script

There is knock on the door. Didi rushes over from the kitchen to answer it. A stern looking officer, surrounded by Chuckie, Tommy, Phil, and Lil, greets her at the door.

Policeman: Mam, I’m told these kids are yours.

Didi: Oh my goodness! I’m sorry officer. I hope they weren’t too much trouble.

Didi waits for the officer to hand over the children and then go on his way. This doesn’t happen.

Policeman: Mrs. Pickles, I am afraid I’m going to need to speak with you. Can I come in?

Didi is surprised but nods.

Didi: Of course. (She guides him in, showing him the playpen with the door wide open.) You can put the babies here.

The policeman inspects the broken lock.

Policeman: Has this been broken long?

Didi: Well yeah, the kids are always breaking out of it.

Policeman: Always…and you still use it?

Didi: It wouldn’t matter. Tommy always uses the screwdriver. (She sees the officers confused look) He keeps it in his diaper.

Policeman: May I see this screwdriver?

Didi: Sure thing, he’s so handy, like his father! (Didi pulls the screwdriver out of Tommy’s diaper) I know he likes it so I give it back whenever he gets a fresh diaper. Some kids need blankets, others like tools. Isn’t that cute.

The Police officer has taken out a pad of paper and pen. He jots some notes down.

Policeman: Mrs. Pickles I have to inform you that we found your kids attempting to escape a vending machine.

Didi: Oh goodness! That sounds like a scary adventure.

Policeman: I would say that sounds more like a scary amount of neglect. How did your children get across town without anyone in your household noticing?

Didi: I never notice much when I’m talking with the girls…Stu is in the basement…and Grandpa is watching TV but he usually keeps an eye on them.

The policeman looks into the other room where he can see Grandpa Lou sound asleep in the recliner.

Policeman: You don’t seem surprised by any of this.

Didi: It just happens so often…

Policeman: I should stop you there. You’ve already said too much. I am to inform you that social services will be coming to check on the safety of this house. The video of babies stuck in a vending machine has been trending all day. There’s a lot of pressure to remove them from your care.

Didi: Well I never!

Policeman: I would not give your son any more screwdrivers.
