Hippo Reflections

The Greeks named us
“river horse” —

as did the Chinese
of course —

How’d they cook up
such an apt

similitude
so exact

(Kidding …) yes, it’s
tenuous

clubbing us with
Pegasus

Seabiscuit? now
there’s a name

we could in good
conscience claim

We are hardly
elegant

lack the racing
temper’ment

We’re not much help
‘round the farm,

But we offer
tons of charm!

Hey! perhaps …

that’s why we’re the
inspirations

for Boynton’s greatest
publications!

The End

in the same spirit
