Silly Animal Rhymes, Part 1
originals, loosely inspired by the art of Gábor Devecsery
by Joe Váradi
Mama bear
Mama bear yells
at her cublet:
“Wipe that lipstick
off your snout!
You’re too young to
catch a husband,
go instead and
catch some trout!”
Beaver and Otter
“You can be a
swimming champ too,”
says the otter
to the beaver,
“Keep up with those
practice laps and
soon you’ll be a
true believer!”
Owl and Rabbit
Wise old owl calls
to the rabbit,
“Time for you to
quit fooling ‘round,
I see falcons
looping above,
save your hide and
head underground!”
Pair of Foxes
Pair of foxes
in the hen house,
on the prowl for
spring chickens —
All they find’s a
scrawny rooster —
this lot sho’ is
slim pickings.
