During my visit to Cebu City, Philippines, I explored the bustling Carbon Market, a vibrant hub locals fondly call the wholesale center. Here, fresh produce from farmers arrives daily, filling the air with the energy of trade and life.

I’m drawn to open markets wherever I go. For me these places brim with stories waiting to be told. While roaming for moments to capture, I noticed a shaft of sunlight casting onto a wall, revealing something simple yet profound, a rattan baby crib, Filipino-style.

Its quiet presence even the chaos felt deeply personal, as if it carried whispers of lives intertwined with its history. This is the story it inspired.

Rattan Crib In The Sunlight

In the hum of the market, life weaves its tale,
The air thick with voices, the scent of the sale.
But there, in the corner, where few eyes roam,
A rattan crib waits — its story, unknown.

The sun finds its way through the cracks in the wall,
Casting light on a cradle, weathered and small.
No jewels, no lace, just simple, raw grace,
A vessel of dreams in this bustling place.
