After 18 months of full-time van life and having been MIA on Medium almost all throughout, I’m excited to take you through my typical day on the road.

So, my wife and I wake up pretty early for our morning prayer, and although there’s room for improvement, we’re usually out of bed at sunrise, so around 6:00 AM.

More often than not, I go back to sleep right after praying. I don’t always fall back asleep, but that time is when I get a lot of epiphanies: ideas for articles, lightbulb moments, or just random deep reflections.

My wife starts school or work between 9:00 and 9:30 AM. If it’s a school day (Monday to Wednesday), she leaves the van at 9 AM sharp. If it’s a work-from-home day, she gets out of bed right before she starts.

When she leaves for school, I usually wake up the moment she’s out the door.

I don’t eat breakfast (intermittent fasting all year round), so I just wash up, brush my teeth and check my schedule for the day. Then, I grab my laptop and get straight to work. I practice deep work, so from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, I’m completely in the zone. 80% of my work gets done during these three hours.
