I’ll Have a Full Colorado, Please
After eight days in this state, I’ve experienced almost a full year of seasons
I arrived in Denver on Saturday, April 12th. It was hot and sunny, with a temperature around 80 degrees. My son picked me up at the airport and we drove north to Fort Collins, where he lives.
After dinner that night, we walked around Fort Collins in shirt sleeves. Some people were wearing shorts. Traveling 900 miles south from Wisconsin felt like I was transported to a different season. It felt like summer!
Trees were budding, and some were in full bloom, such as the crabapples that lined the streets and perfumed the air with their sweet scent.
On Sunday, we visited Devil’s Backbone to hike. It was pleasant and again, sunny to start. Clouds moved in later. To see people out enjoying the trails in only their shirt sleeves seemed like spring.
Dogs scampered about with their owners, stretching their leashes to get to the smell of a new season, harbored in the soil and plants coming to life.
