Oh, the Weather Outside is Frightful, But the Skiing Has Been So Delightful!
Making the most of the cold and snowy weather
Welcome back. Except for the first few days, January has been a cold month. Did I mention cold? As I am writing this, we are in the middle of another cold snap with below-average temperatures and bone-chilling wind chills. We currently have about 8 inches of snow on the ground, just enough to enjoy cross-country skiing.
I must admit, at times this month, it has been too cold to go skiing. However, there have been plenty of chances to enjoy the great outdoors when the temperatures were still cold but tolerable. After all, skiing is best when the snow is crisp; the skis glide easily and the snow doesn’t stick to the skis.
So Far it’s Been a Good Winter for Skiing
I’ve been out 8 times thus far this season for a total of about 17.5 miles. I’ve enjoyed the variety of State forests and parks in the area. I am lucky to have access to these areas for skiing, hiking, and mountain biking. I continue to discover new trails in the area. Just this past Sunday, I started to explore for the first time the Pharsalia Wildlife Management Area, a 4700-acre parcel that is near the Pharsalia Woods State Forest, which is about 9200 acres.
