Ostriches

These two sassy-looking ostriches were at the petting zoo area at the State Fair a couple of years ago. They seemed to have a lot of personality. While we were observing them, a woman holding a small child let the child hold out a cup of food, and one of the ostriches took the whole cup and half her arm into its mouth. Naturally, the kid screamed but was more or less fine.

My youngest son fed them straight from his hand. They were serious about that food. You can see some of it flying from his hand when one of them took the offering.

One of the crazy birds even eyeballed the back of my husband’s head and started to stretch its long neck toward him (without incident) when he turned to leave the area.

Olives

I love olives and I love cream cheese. When a friend told me about this olive and cream cheese snack that they’d made, I was on board to try it…
