We’re excited to share that Avi Medical has raised EUR 50 million in a Series B funding round, and we’re extremely proud to have been a sparring partner to Vlad and his team since day one.

Avi Medical cofounders Julian Kley and Vlad Lata

We first met Vlad back in 2019. Several months before Avi Medical was founded, we started discussing several opportunities in the healthtech market. Eventually, after months of sparring together Vlad, he decided to pursue and found Avi Medical. The problems that Avi Medical wanted to tackle were complex, but fully aligned with our philosophy: A daring founder team that reimagines the way we live and work!

Why we became Avi Medical’s first investor

Today’s primary care system is broken. Firstly, most healthcare systems have not been built around patients’ needs. For example, the average waiting time for patients at a doctor in Europe is around 30 minutes. Consumerization and customer experience have disrupted nearly every industry, but healthcare still remains untouched. Secondly, a huge generational change is taking place, seeing that nearly 50% of all GPs in Europe are aged 55 years or older and on the brink of retirement. Though a new generation of doctors is entering the field, they are also adamant in their demands for more flexible working hours, whereas the patients expect, more and more, to be catered to digitally as well. Thirdly, data is still not leveraged in a way that both sides, patients and doctors, benefit from it. A unified approach to how to use data is lacking and overdue.

Hence, there was a clear need for a digital, full-stack solution to the problem, and the opportunity in the primary care market was huge — €11B in Germany alone. Working together with Vlad’s team, we were immediately impressed by their clear vision, boldness, and drive to execute.

The daring team and the complex model aligned with our values and market hypotheses — and despite having to buy a hospital to fulfil the legal requirements in Germany to open GP practices, we strongly believed in Vlad and his team’s ability to execute on their vision. So we joined Avi on their journey and became their first investor.

Why we’re backing Avi at Series B and beyond

In the last 2 years, the team has exceeded our boldest dreams by proving their ability to execute, hire an AAA team, and build a world-class technology platform. Witnessing the first 5 practices in Munich go live — with further practices across Germany already lined up ahead of plan — clearly shows the strength of the people behind Avi Medical.

But what has impressed us most is the stellar feedback that Avi receives daily from its patients and doctors — continuous five-star reviews about their interactions with doctors, as well as the digital-first patient journey and a workplace in which doctors can spend more time with their patients.

This is just the beginning, however, and Avi Medical has only scratched the surface of what is to come.

In the future, we believe that the team will provide a combination of evidence-based medicine, best-in-class patient-to-doctor interaction, a strong tech platform, and personalized healthcare solutions. This allows patients to receive feedback on health issues faster and more accurately — thus improving long-term patient health, and generating huge savings for the strained healthcare system as a whole. We believe that Avi Medical will reshape how care is delivered from a transactional, short-term reactive treatment to a continuous and preventive care treatment that puts the patient at the centre and improves the health of our society.

We strongly believe that Avi Medical will define the fully-integrated health manager category in Europe, and we’re proud to continue as a life-long partner — from pre-seed to Series B — to Vlad and the team.
