Well, well, well — seems like the first Bootcamp season is finishing!

This is a story of the 3 freshmen that have joined PICUS for one month during the summer. This year, we have organized the PICUS’ Bootcamp: one month of intense training in Development, Design or Sales. We want to give college students the opportunity to apply the skills they learned in the classroom in real-world cases.

This season, we had Diogo, JoĂŁo, and Pedro joining us. Here are their testimonials. Also, you can watch the video version of this article below:

Diogo — International Sales

“Doing a Summer Internship has always been a goal of mine since I’ve entered University.

Even though I don’t study in Viana, I’ve always had a deep connection with the city — after all, it’s my hometown, and I lived there for all my life! I’ve known PICUS for a few months at the time I applied. I was sending applications to intern in the Summer, and I just thought:

“Why not give it a shot?”

I submitted my application and, around a week later, I received a reply. I was in.
I was super excited! I would be working as an International Sales Intern. I believe Sales is a crucial skill for any professional — and, after I began my Bootcamp Program, I also realized that handling Social Media is also very advantageous.

During my time at PICUS, I started managing the internal Social Media Platforms while I was creating content. I always had a bit of interest in how these platforms work, so it was natural for me to start handling these types of tasks. I used all of them, and I discovered the actual impact that Social Media can have both in my professional and on our brand!

Overall, I really enjoyed my time at PICUS! It really contributed to discovering more about Sales, Marketing, Social Media and how agencies operate!

João — Developer

“Before I started my adventure in Computer Science, I already had the interest to build web pages.

After selecting a few online courses, I started to explore how things work on my own. It felt very intuitive and easy to develop or so I thought!

At the annual IPVC Summit, I came across PICUS. I figured that they were the perfect opportunity to learn more about this Software Development. I applied for the Summer Bootcamp and got an interview. At the time, I thought that I knew all about HTML, CSS, and JavaScript through online courses but… oh boy was I wrong!

Here at the Bootcamp, I learned a lot about the present frameworks to develop websites. I was overwhelmed by all the information I could get in just one month.

Another significant advantage of having participated in the Bootcamp is that I could see how an actual digital agency works, how this market operates, and what kind of communication happens between the company and their clients. Also, it was terrific to see how the team organizes their week to develop their projects. I truly believe this type of knowledge is essential for my future as a Software Engineer, and I’m very thankful for being part of PICUS!”

Pedro — Development

“What you learn in a classroom is not enough to be successful in real life.

That’s the main reason that made me want to do an internship this year because I realized that in school I wasn’t learning what I needed to succeed in the job market and that I needed to do something outside classes.

It was when I met PICUS. They were making a talk about the company, and their summer internship at a summit organized by IPVC, my school here in Viana do Castelo, and that was everything I needed to hear.

Work with experienced developers understand how an agency like this works and test my skills in real projects were the topics that made me apply to the internship without even thinking twice.

I was interviewed and got rapidly accepted. Hurray!

It was a whole month, full of challenging and brain melting moments, trying to capture all the new information. New programming languages and techniques that’ll undoubtedly be very useful in the future. But also a month with lots of funny and relaxed moments.

This was a great experience that made me learn new things that will help me after I finish my degree. Now, I understand how a real company works.”

We organize these bootcamps by seasons so you can apply at any time you want!

Are you a fresh graduate, a student or have relevant experience in the target areas? Then you can join!
