Guilt & I

I went thousands and thousands of miles away
not knowing where I am going and yet…

somehow you always find a way
to find me :

Caught
inside a thought,

eyes staring out the window, but
not really seeing anything.

hands on the wheel, but
not in control of anything.

as the shadow of every passing streetlight
crosses over my faceless face — a stunning undulation
between madness
and martyrdom.

and your voice whispers to me
“peace will find you when your heart is still.”

But I am never still,

I am
never
still.

— conversations between guilt and I
