It was a transformative year for PieDAO. From launching PLAY and Governance Mining (DOUGH staking) to the implementation of SLICE distributions, 2021 was the year our community decided to bet on the long-term success of our project. In this first-ever recap blog, we’ll review the moments that defined our first full year as a pioneering web3 community.

What better way to start this recap than by mentioning the launch of PLAY. PLAY was released in late March as a collaboration between PieDAO and NFTX. It marked our first foray into the Ethereum gaming and NFT ecosystem. Most importantly, it gave investors exposure to a still-nascent concept known as the Metaverse. It has gone through a few iterations since then but its impact on our community cannot be understated. Since its launch PLAY has become the most widely held PIE, and it shows no signs of stopping.

Hands down, the defining moment of 2021 was the launch of governance mining (DOUGH staking). The idea is simple: lock your DOUGH tokens (stake), vote monthly, and receive rewards. Easy right? The real magic is in turning members from common token holders to invested owners of a DAO. And as owners, we can focus on creating long-term foundations instead of chasing short-term mirages. This is an important idea which we want to imbue into the PieDAO culture as it will only become more prevalent in the upcoming year.

In conjunction with the launch of governance mining, we also introduced an economic incentive to good governance in the form of SLICE tokens. SLICE are rewards that are given out monthly. It’s our community’s way of promoting continued involvement from all staked members as we dive right into 2022.

Without further ado below is a recap of PieDAO’s activity over the past year.

Our communities numbers:

DOUGH staking numbers:

  • 322 voting addresses
  • 12,492,988.99 DOUGH staked
  • ~44.9 % of available DOUGH staked
  • Average time lock of 34 months

Unsurprisingly the most voted upon proposals were all after DOUGH staking went live.
