A departure from traditional evil….

Keeping in line with the ancient Warriors of the Three Trinity Lines born of Irish descent, we’re still a ways from Scotland, but detouring from what many consider the deadliest in demons and lycans of old, and even evil spirits conjured of witchboards and pentagrams —

Instead, given that the Berith Lochem served the Lord Almighty, laced with many visuals of angels and, of course, horsemen of the Apocalypse, there was no shortage of creatures and myths of a dark man on horse…. With no head.

They Called Him the “Dullahan”

Which actually does translate to “dark man” in Irish, a foreteller of death, practically akin to the actual Christian horseman of Death, except this beast has only one goal —

To capture random souls out of hate and greed!

Traditionally as in other tales, such as one Ichabod Crane, a headless horseman riding a blackened steed with flaming eyes, foreboding in the coming of death and damnation, carries his own head, typically a freakish skull (not a pumpkin, mind you, as that would be just a little silly).

The legend goes that the Dullahan continues riding, but when he stops — somewhere in the world a human being dies suddenly. A bit of a difference from the common myth we’re all used to hearing, but back in the most distant past of what these holy warriors often hunted, the Dullahan certainly scared many more….

Other versions of the Irish legend even mentioned that the Dullahan even throws buckets of blood at those he passes by (something similar to what the specter does in the Ichabod Crane tale), and yet others claim the monster roars in a blood-curdling, primordial and unearthly howl of the name of the mortal human who will soon die.

But as With Many Dark Creatures of Old, This One Apparently Does Have a Weakness:

Gold. Not a bridge. Not garlic. Not sunlight. But the precious metal that actually terrifies the beast away. It was, in fact, common for many Berith Lochem to carry gold like garlic as a means to ensure they have an advantage against the shadowy horseman.

Who knows if the Berith Lochem ever really did face such beasts as this…. But that is the legend. You can learn more from the books of the Divine Covenant, though, and purchase THE CAIN LETTERS!
