Pierre Poilievre’s Populism to Baby-Fascism Pipeline
How Canada’s Conservatives are following in the footsteps of our neighbours to the South
I wrote previously about the populism to fascism pipeline through more of an American lens, given the impact of the U.S. elections on North America, and indeed the world.
Now that we’ve endured the inauguration of America’s contemporary fascist regime, I want to turn to the parallel nightmare playing out right here in Canada.
Trump and Musk fanboy, Pierre Poilievre, wants to be Canada’s next Prime Minister, and is on a terrifyingly realistic trajectory towards achieving that goal. We Canadians need to wake the f — up now, so we don’t end up like many Americans who are realizing too late what it really means to elect a president who openly expresses admiration for totalitarian leaders and aspires to follow in their footsteps.
In that vein, I will now outline Umberto Eco’s fourteen features of an eternal-fascist (which he calls UR-fascism), and draw parallels between these traits and the current Conservative leadership.
