Have you taken the 16 personalities test? Are you an extrovert or an introvert? Do you like planning or do you go with gut feeling? Do you prefer doing work on your own or with a friend? Are you close with your family? Do you have any food preferences? Are you moody on some days? Do you like singing? Is your hair straight or curly? Are you good at sports? Do you feel lonely? Do you have siblings? Are you happy?

All these questions and so many different possible answers. Not one person could answer every single question with exactly the same identical answer. Why? because us humans are unique. Just like the key attribute for an entity. Our taste might be the same, but our fingerprints are different. Two people could be similar but very different at the same time. Humans are fascinating creatures with amazing abilities. Because of this difference, we are able to develop things, but because of this difference we also (sometimes) have misunderstandings.

Why do we need to understand other people?

No matter how independent we are, humans are a social creature whose lives are dependent towards another.

Contrary to popular beliefs, programming is a team sport. It involves working with other people and building something together. that is why, we also need to have a great relationship with other people.

What makes us a good teammate?

the key is people management. What can we do to manage our social life?

People Management

  1. Professional
Since we are in a working and or studying environment, we need to make sure that we are professional. Being responsible for your own portion of the work is a basic attitude we must abide.
  2. Be a team player
Being a team player means that we have considered ourselves as a part of the team. If we can position ourselves as a partof the team, we know what might make other people feel burdened and we know when to help others.
  3. Be emphathethic
Yes, some people have their own line of work and assignments. but sometimes there are situations where bad things happen. And we have to be emphathethic towards each other and help each other out.
  4. Be accountable
Sure people will help each other but please do your work and assignment with all might. Proving that you are accountable for your work means that people will have more trust in you. This is good because for a team to work together, we need trust.
  5. Communication
Just like any other relationship, communication is key. It is a way for us to know each other more, so that we can be more mindful towards each other. If you are uncomfortable because of something, please express it clearly. If you are thankful for something, express it. With this, people will know what they did wrong, people will feel more appreciated and happy. If we can talk to machine to help us, why can’t we communicate clearly with other human beings?
  6. Learn from experience
Not everyone will be the same but through that we can learn about other people’s habits. For example, since your co-worker is a parent, they might not be able to go to late night dinner party. So be mindful, maybe plan a team lunch instead of dinners. Small things like this makes people feel more appreciated and included.
  7. Be respectful
Wherever we are, we need to be respectful towards others and do not go over the line because we are all human being with feelings. Respect each other’s personal boundaries and lives. It would be very nice to avoid any type of miscommunication and quarrels.

In my team, we are trying our best and getting along fine. Since we have been together in the same class for about 5 semesters, we know what irks off each other and whenever someone cannot do something, we help each other out. The result of it is a really good dynamics. This is due to everyone’s amazing people management skill that is mindful and respectful but also fun.

Because of this, it is easy for us to communicate our weakness and advantages, making the workload easier to split. It would be very nice to be working in an environment like this becauseeven if the work is stressful, the environment makes us more motivated to finish the task because it is our common goal together.
