Pilgrimage — Introduction
In this publication, I will talk about an imaginary feature for World of Warcraft: Pilgrimage. Pilgrimages are a series of World Events, most of which are micro-holidays. Some are meant to take a character into a silent, lonely descent while others are more… colorful.
You may be expected to literally walk a long distance, eat a certain food, equip a certain item, draw blood and who knows what else?
Some pilgrimages will be restricted to a certain faction, class or race. Sometimes… you will find ways to by-pass these restrictions!
To imagine the gameplay, sometimes you will be expected to walk a certain path. These paths will be highlighted in game and as long as you follow the rules, you will have a debuff (or non-dispellable buff) that confirms you are on the correct path. Sometimes, you will receive a sanctuary effect that protects you from other players or NPCs. Sometimes, you will just press a button for your character to walk.
All in all, pilgrimages are not meant to be game changers but more on the side of adding to the immersion and the sense of belonging to the world of Azeroth with your character and feeding the players some lore, usually that belongs to the older games.
I hope you like them!
