Thursday 9/10 was Back to School Night at our school. Lots of parents came and met many of the staff and their students’ teachers. This event took a lot of preparation from all the staff so the parents could have a great time looking around the school and meeting their teachers. The first thing they did was have an introductory meeting in the cafeteria for all the parents to attend before going to each class.

Parents got their child’s schedule to go to each class and see what class they would go to. That schedule provided what time they had to go to that class and how long they had to get there. It also had the number of classrooms and the name of that class. Parents would have 10 minutes to get to each class. I asked my mom about how she thought that amount of time helped her find each of the classes and she said, “Since this was my first time, I did struggle a bit to find each class but I asked other parents for help and got there when I was supposed to.”

Teachers went over rules and expectations they have for each of their classes; for example when to not use your phone during class and expectations like being respectful and kind to one another while in and outside of class. Every teacher described to parents what the study plan for each quarter would be and what we would do during that quarter.

Some teachers and parents got to meet each other for the first time. When parents would get to their class, they would talk about themselves so the person would know about where they went to school, family, and where they live. I asked my mom another question about how she felt about meeting each teacher and she said, “It was great meeting every teacher and knowing about their life and seeing what you guys are doing.” Many parents did not know where to go so this made parents talk to each other and get to know each other while trying to figure out where to go. Some of the students were there to guide their parents so it could be less confusing.

This event went smoothly for all parents. Hopefully they all had a great time meeting teachers and other parents as well as looking around the school and getting to see more about how this school is and what the expectations are. We should all be thankful for all the staff that took their time preparing Back to School Night .
