We all know Mrs. Stehr as the kind caring person she is, but did you know that Mrs. Stehr has been teaching for over 25 years? Mrs. Stehr grew up in Concord and went to Carondelet, an all-girls high school. Mrs. Stehr was not very social in her early years and mostly kept to herself. But later on through high school Mrs. Stehr decided to run for student council and, as a result, she was introduced to lots of other students and she became more social.

Mrs. Stehr went to U.C. Davis for college and studied human development so she could become a lawyer. She later found out that being a teacher and counselor would be more helpful to people. Right after college, Mrs. Stehr decided to teach in Japan for 6 months; this gave her more confidence to continue teaching and even start a program to help neurodivergent students. This program was started in 1994 to help third grade students at St. Elizabeth Elementary who learn differently.

Zelig, a current student at St. Joseph Notre Dame, states, “She helps me take charge of my work and inspires me to do my best work.” Zelig also explains how she is different from other teachers: “She is able to understand kids with learning differences and help them find the best solution to their problems.”

Zelig continued, “My favorite thing about her is her optimistic, bubbly personality coupled with her dedication.” Zelig’s experience with Mrs. Stehr seems to be shared by many other students at Saint Joseph Notre Dame High.

Mrs. Stehr is highly experienced and is easy to approach and ask questions. So next time you have a school related question or just need some homework help, go to room 1 after school. You will find an amazing resource, an understanding, patient, supportive, bright, and thoughtful person.
