Lunchtime Intramural basketball started on September 13, 2023 and the matchups are exciting and competitive. There are 15 teams in the league and consist of boys and girls that all want to play basketball and have fun. Teachers even form a team and it makes it a good time to watch and play.

Intramural sports is a great way for students and faculty to come together at lunch and also exercise. It gives non-competitive students who are not on the Varsity basketball team a way of having casual fun and getting in some exercise. It’s a good way to make new friends and stay active while not having to worry about a super competitive environment.

There are numerous benefits that have been found with recreational sports such as stress reduction and to give students a quick break from the rigorous day of school studying.

SJND offers intramural sports all year round during lunch. There will be volleyball and basketball offered to all the students of any grade.

I am on a team that consists of 6 players. We have 2 freshmen players and 4 juniors. One of our players is injured with a knee injury and cannot play for the first few weeks. Our injured player, Dawson Stewart said, “I’m working hard everyday to overcome my knee injury and cannot wait to play.”

My teammate, Robbie Fintland , a junior said, “Lunchtime league is fun and a getaway from the normal day to day routine of school.”

We won our game last week and lost our game this week. The games have already proved to be exciting and competitive. I am looking forward to the rest of the lunchtime league basketball season!
