SJND’s art class with Mr. Ritter is truly one of a kind. It’s full of creativity, curiosity, and intelligence.

Life in 6th period class is eventful, lively, and full of productivity. Well, for the most part anyway.

You walk into a joyful, warm, sunny environment filled with joy and artistic thoughts circling the classroom air, and you relax as your previous concerns and worries melt away. Once you take a piece of paper and drag your pencil across the ivory page creating that first line, your mind is drawn into a sense of peace, and your heart and body are brought to the abyss.

The classmates are friendly, and Mr. Ritter and his assistants help you to truly understand any questions or struggles you may have, as well as helping you create that first masterpiece and many more to come.

Laura T. ’26 states, “Art class is like any other, except what you are learning is much more than anything concrete. You are learning that art is anything and everything. You learn to express yourself and your creativity. Because of these things, it’s like few other classes, but there is something it has in common: teaching those who wish to learn how to hone their craft.”

Work with high quality materials, spacious desks, and even a special Spotify playlist tailored to you and your class’s specific tastes.

Participate in charity artwork, discover and experiment with various types of mediums, and make as many mistakes as you need. Learn color theory, value and scale, and work in many different color pallets.

Mr. Ritter’s classroom is a great place if you want to escape reality for a period. The environment is welcoming, and there’s room for anyone and everyone who wishes to grow and learn and develop the artistic talent that lies within you!
