What Is The Most Anticipated Sporting Event of 2024?

In 2024, the sports scene is buzzing with excitement as various events are gonna take center all over the world this year. From the intense competitions of the Summer and Winter Olympics to the highly anticipated showdowns like the Super Bowl and the NBA Finals, sports fans are in a treat this year. Athletes from all over the world are gearing up for these big moments to put their name out there or lead their team to victory. As we dive into the year, everyone is eager to witness incredible performances, some unexpected wins, and the continuation of some very memorable rivalries. I’m going to go over each month of this year while looking over and summarizing the most important sporting events of the year. If I skip a month, it’s because there wasn’t much to talk about that month sports-wise.
January 2024
One of the highlights in the world of tennis in 2024 is the much anticipated Australian Open. As the first Grand Slam event of the year, the tournament is set to take place on the vibrant courts of Melbourne Park. Tennis enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting to see top players from around the globe showcase their skills and compete for the coveted title. The Australian Open has a reputation for delivering intense matches in the beautiful country that is Australia. The fans are excited to witness the incredible serves, powerful counters, and very strategic plays that will undoubtedly shock all fans. The competition promises to be fierce with both seasoned champions and emerging talents trying to leave their mark on the court. I personally don’t really watch tennis but my parents do non the less many people are excited for this year’s Australian Open (AO).
February 2024
February is a huge month for the sports world. Because it is one of the most important events for not only America but people all around the world, the one and only Super Bowl LVIII. In the highly anticipated culmination of the NFL season, the spotlight shines on Super Bowl 2024. The stage is officially set; it will be a clash between last year’s champions The Kansas City Chiefs vs The San Francisco 49ers hosted in Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas Nevada. The Chiefs beat the Baltimore Ravens and the 49ers defeated the Detroit Lions after being down 17 points in the first half. Although people are still excited for the Super Bowl, many people were rooting for the Ravens to beat the Chiefs and for the Lions to beat the 49ers. Everyone wanted the Ravens to win because of Taylor Swift dating Travis Kelce, who is one of the players on the Chiefs. People wanted the Lions to win because some people just have something against Brock Purdy. I decided to ask some people here at SJND what they thought about Brock Purdy and Who they wanted to win in the Chiefs vs Ravens game
April 2024
In April there’s not much, just the start of one of many F1 Grand Prix ‘s that will be all year long. The first one is the Shanghai Grand Prix, which is taking place at Shanghai International Circuit in Jiading, Shanghai on April 19 to the 21. This is the time for Chinese F1 drivers to represent their country and show their skill and greatness. This event will show what F1 drivers from China have what it takes to compete in future ones.
May 2024
The Europa League final is taking place on May 22 and the Women’s FA Cup Final soccer fans are gonna go crazy this month. People are predicting that Liverpool will take it for The Europa League final since they are in first place in the Premier League and by far have been one of the most dominant teams of the season. For the Women’s FA Cup Final, people have their money on the Chelseas women’s team because they have won many times in past FA cups.
June 2024
June is a stacked month for all different sports fans. First of all, the NBA Finals is one of the most exciting parts of the whole year. Right now the Boston Celtics are expected to go to the finals against either the Minnesota Timberwolves or the Oklahoma City Thunder because all threeteams always dominate every single game they play. The NBA Finals is always such a great suspenseful time for basketball fans. For soccer fans the UEFA Champions League Final will also take place at Wembley Stadium, London.
July 2024
In the world of professional cycling all eyes are on the highly anticipated Tour De France 2024. This renowned race, celebrated for its challenging routes and breathtaking scenery, has cyclists and sports enthusiasts worldwide on the edge of their seats as riders start the incredible journey across the beautiful landscapes of France. The Tour promises an exciting blend of endurance, strategy and just raw athleticism. Cyclists from top tier teams will navigate through rough terrains, including grueling mountain climbs and high speed sprints all in pursuit of the coveted yellow jersey.
That is all for all the major sporting events happening this year. I personally am most excited for the NBA finals this year. I’m praying that the Warriors will win. Now that I explained all the main events that are taking place all over the year, I decided to ask some students and teachers from SJND to see what they are most excited for.
The most popular answer was the Super Bowl and that’s what I expected due to it being so close. I understand all the hype building up for the epic matchup of the Chiefs and The 49ers. Just as Mason Manabat said when I asked him, he said, “Probably the Super Bowl cause it’s about to come up.” Coach G (Ralph Gonzalez) is obviously a huge 49ers fan, so no surprise there either.
Overall I think 2024 is going to be an amazing year. So much stuff to look forward to.
