Introducing new adoption & surrogacy benefits at Pinterest
Candice Morgan | Head of Inclusion & Diversity, Pinterest
At Pinterest, Diversity and Inclusion are woven into the fabric of our culture. As our company grows, so do the needs of each employee, including those starting families.
We’re always working on building our culture around our mission of helping people discover and do what they love — take for example our internal conference Knit Con, where employees teach each other special skills over two days. In that spirit, our People team often speaks with employees to learn more about how we should expand our benefits, and we recently spoke with a colleague who’s been looking into surrogacy with his husband. The high costs associated with surrogacy were raised, and we began looking into how we could help him, and others in similar situations, ease the financial burden.
As of July 1, we’ll begin rolling out new adoption and surrogacy assistance to all employees, in addition to existing programs including 16 weeks parental leave for all parents and fertility benefits (up to $20,000). Any employee going through the adoption process can receive a reimbursement up to $5,000 in net benefits, while those working with a surrogate can receive reimbursement up to $20,000 in net benefits, covering costs associated with everything from travel to agency and legal fees, and any other related expenses.
We look forward to continuing to expand the benefits and growing our culture we offer so that all employees and their families feel represented and supported.
