Bioinformatics is a discipline that combines domain expertise with data science skills. That domain expertise is combined with a general knowledge of some molecular biology, some computer science and some statistics. General bioinformatics education results in a person that knows a little bit about every one of these domains, but so often not enough in any of them. That’s why we decided to limit our focus in the upcoming program to oncology and learn about the biological background of cancer, and see how practical bioinformatics skills can be used to analyze oncology data.

The Bioinformatics for Precision Oncology Online Training Program will leverage datasets from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and other public domain repositories to learn about cancer by analyzing data from cell lines, animal models of cancer tumors and from patients in clinical trials.

We will also learn about several aspects of bioinformatics: processing next generation sequencing data (NGS), analyzing gene expression and finding mutation variants in whole exome sequencing. And of course, learning to interpret found results using gene ontologies and biological pathways.

As a result, participants of this program will be ready to start an independent research project in the world of cancer — practicing with real datasets, analyzing big data! Data from cell lines or patients.

With the curated examples, we will learn to identify target genes, find pathways that are activated or deactivated in certain cancers and propose new treatment matches for hypothetical patient cohorts. This online program will include a balanced view of cancer biology, clear definitions for clinical data and an intuitive platform to analyze data with or without any coding skills.

Join us for this exciting program. Registrations are open and early bird discounts are available until February 29th. The program will start March 16th! https://edu.tbioinfo.com/precision-oncology-2020
