Our careers and lives often go through a slump and we wonder what to do next — stay put or keep moving? At such times, we need a little nudge to help us get started on our paths once again.

In all probability, that nudge will not come from an external force. It will come from your ability to stay motivated, get recharged once again, and keep walking toward your dreams.

Here are a few hacks that may just help you pick up from where you left off…

1. Seek inspiration

Inspiration doesn’t just come to you, you have to work at it proactively… Sometimes, you even have to go looking for it.

This is especially true for creatives…inspiration seldom strikes on its own. The “eureka moment” will come after much immersion in life, and by dabbling in various activities that stoke your interest.

Inspiration can come through travel, books, lectures, movies, and videos!

Inspiration can also come by being still and absorbing what comes your way with an open mind.

Being receptive to ideas is the first step to inspiration; after which you must implement your idea.

2. Stay committed to your decisions

Passion is not enough to see an idea become reality. You must plan, be persistent, and then chalk out the path ahead.

You need commitment toward the path. One small step taken each day is the only way to get closer to your goal.

The ancient rishis of yore used to say that if you wish to master an asana, you should do the same asana in the same place for seven and a half years. Yes, that’s the kind of commitment that was expected!

Now, if you apply that analogy to any commitment you make, you are bound to see great results!

The idea of a routine is never exciting, but it is the only way to excel at anything.

3. Determine your rhythm

There are times when work gets done easily, and then there are times when we struggle with simple routine tasks.

Not every day is a good day, and not every day will see the same levels of energy and enthusiasm.

But even our not-so-good days can find a rhythm if we decide to do at least one or two tasks that we like.

Adding a flow activity, or one in which you lose yourself to the task at hand, is the best way to feel energized and creative.

An ideal flow state may be difficult to find all the time, but once you do, stay with it, work more, do more, be more.

Optimize those times when you feel one with your work, completely immersed in it, and watch yourself scale greater heights.

4. Take all the help you get

Life can be challenging, and sometimes you may feel you have very few tools or “coping mechanisms” to get by. At such times, look outside for help.

Nowadays, with the internet, it is easy to network and seek help remotely. Whatever skills you wish to upgrade or whatever counseling you need from coaches in different areas of life, you will find it just a click away

Thought leaders, life coaches, courses, and books, are some of the ways to get you restarted and back in the game.

Once you open yourself up to help, you’ll be surprised by all the wisdom and guidance you get from around you!

5. Learn every day

The ways of learning are many, but, first, you need to make learning a daily habit. The curiosity to learn something new every day is what will keep our minds young and dynamic.

Start your day by cultivating the mindset of a learner. Imagine every morning that you are a blank slate, waiting to learn from the many people you interact with or the scenes you see in life.

To facilitate better learning, erase any thoughts of judgment or cynicism and make an intent to look for the positive in everything. In this way, we will be open to learning with a clear mind.

Learning becomes a pleasurable experience when you participate wholeheartedly and with a positive mindset.

6. Dream, and dream big

Dreams give us hope, and purpose and make our hearts race a wee bit more. So, keep your dreams alive or generate new ones to inspire you to work harder.

Dreams don’t see gender, age, or race. Dreams are dreams and everyone is entitled to them.

Moreover, when you dream, dream big. Dream dreams that may even terrify you. Because as they terrify you, they will also energize you… They will make you stretch your limits, and do more than you thought you could.

And, don’t worry about the result. As is often said, “Reach for the stars, and you will at least touch the trees or mountains!”

7. Focus on what matters

To achieve your dreams you need laser-sharp focus.

A dream may seem too big at the start, and you may hesitate to even begin or not know where or how to. But, to achieve any goal, we must first break it down into tiny goals. These tiny goals when combined create that one big dream.

Because, every dream has many facets, and each has to be understood separately. For instance, if the dream is physical fitness, then there are several aspects to it: weight loss, flexibility, strength, and endurance training.

When you break down your goal into its many parts, you can focus on each one and work accordingly. This will eventually create all-rounded success.

8. See the positive in everything

No matter how difficult a situation we may be facing, we have to believe that ultimately everything is for the best, and will work to our advantage.

Nothing can remain in the same state for too long. Everything is transient, and hence we must not get too consumed by either adverse situations or happy times. Because,

There would be no yin without yang, darkness without light, day without night.

To keep an even and equanimous mind, we need to appreciate both sides of the coin and know that both accompany our growth.

9. Don’t get stressed out

In the larger scheme of life, there is no need to sweat small stuff. What’s important is to enjoy the moment, be present in the here and now, and simply do without expecting any rewards.

To know that you’re still breathing itself is the biggest blessing. Just being alive is a gift, and everything else is secondary.

When one realizes that they are already gifted with life, anything else seems like a bonus and will only make one grateful.

Profit or loss is not in our hands, neither is success or failure.

What is in our capacity, is to do a good job and add value where possible — to a customer, a colleague, a young mind, a friend, or a family member.

10. Stay true to your soul

Do the small everyday rituals that keep you going.

It could be lighting a candle every evening, sitting for a few moments in active meditation, listening to the sound of birds, or simply sipping a cup of hot tea!

Life is about the small moments, the quiet ones, the meaningful ones… moments that we spend with ourselves, reconnecting to our true nature, to the peaceful being inside…connecting with our soul.

So, make some time every day to be with yourself. This could mean you take away time from other time-wasting activities, like too much social media or unnecessary social obligations.

Devoting time to yourself is perhaps the best way to recharge and reconnect with what you want from your life.

In the end, you may just realize that the small everyday acts make life worth it…and perhaps the only ones that matter!
