I turned 45 last month. I brought in my birthday by going to a temple of Lord Ganesh — a god I largely believe in and pray to — and sang devotional songs and performed the daily puja with several other devotees.

On my birthday, I attended my sitar and yoga classes and did everything else I would do on any other day of the week. The evening was spent with my husband, at a peaceful sky bar in the city, where the crooner wished me with a song.

A perfect way to celebrate myself and the journey thus far.

As we grow older, one of the most important things we realize is that we must first nourish our souls. Because when you do what makes the soul happy, you feel content. I call these my “soul goals”.

Over the past few years, my journey has been more inward than outward. Yoga by its very nature asks you to focus on your body, breath, and mind, and use your inner strength and balance to better your practice.

Music also focuses on playing the right notes, being in rhythm with the beats, and bringing your unique flavour to everything you play.
