How to Express Your Dreams
I was speaking to an astrologer recently, and after analysing my birth chart, he said — ‘A particular planetary position shows that you are a dreamer with big dreams’.
I thought to myself — Is there a place for dreamers anymore?
Everyone is just busy setting goals, and making excel sheets. If not, excel sheets, coding incessantly to put out reams of information into cyber space.
Perhaps these codes will show us how to dream too… Next, we’ll download apps that help chart our dreams, track them, and tell us when we should dump them.
I bemoan a lost age, when dreams were actually dreams — intangible and ephemeral, not virtual and mechanical…
Today, everything we dream of has a virtual equivalent…
If you want to become a singer, use a karaoke app, if you want to become an actor, make a YouTube video of yourself, and if you want to become a writer, just start your own blog...like I did!
And still in the virtual world, we are all real human beings, trying to give expression to our dreams in some form or the other…
Hence we resort to technology and social media platforms, either to display our talents, or to connect more deeply with the world.
With the help of technology, we create, connect and communicate…
Simply because expression is the innate need for all human beings — expression of who they are and expression of who they want to be.
Thus, in the virtual world too — as in the real world — the ultimate goal is that of expression…
But when expression takes form it becomes a manifestation of your dream.. it becomes real and tangible, it becomes an experience, and sometimes, it becomes immortal.
Technology helps us give form to our dreams. But our dreams do not originate from technology…
Dreams originate from an internal voice, a voice that longs to seek expression.
The dream then is expression, and expression is the dream.
When both unite, you see voices and faces that dance in the joy of expression…
As we avidly watch people on the internet, traversing great landscapes, and exhibiting miraculous talent and strength, we seek solace in the fact that dreams do come true…
That there is a chance for each one of us to find expression of our innermost beings… And that we may ultimately realise our dreams through that expression.
Thus, today, many of us have set out to use the digital medium as a space to give vent to our expression…
But, of course, like all dreams, the real work must be done in the real world…through hours of practice and devotion to your craft, through the ability to transcend the limits of your mind and body.
Sometimes, simply by immense perseverance and belief in yourself and in your dreams — belief that one day your dream will find its rightful expression…
And finally, to find joy both in the process of reaching your dreams, and in the dream itself… If we’ve forgotten to smell the roses on the way, we have forgotten to live in the present moment.
If you are unable to enjoy the present moment, will you enjoy the moment when you reach the summit…the vast vistas that surround you?
Hence dear dreamer, dream as much as you want…
But know that no dream is bigger than the present moment…know that no expression is bigger than an experience of the present moment, of immersing yourself in it completely, of surrendering to its dynamic yet still nature.
Dear dreamer, know that dreams are real, but the present moment is a bigger dream than the dream, and to experience that is expression in itself!
Pink Pinjra was founded to enable myself and others to find an avenue for expression, or to share with others existing avenues of expression.
In less than a year, the blog has seen several take to the pen, and share their ideas more openly. Pink Pinjra has also seen me evolve as a writer and thinker.
But more than anything Pink Pinjra has become a space for people to give expression to their dreams… To express their innermost beings without judgment, apprehension and fear…
Pink Pinjra is a metaphor for a cage whose door is wide open… All you need to do is step out of it and give wings to your dreams!
