‘I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.’ — Michelangelo

For an artist, this means chipping away at all the extra marble, to create the ultimate form that he sees with his artist’s eye.

For me, the marble is your karma, the angel your true ‘self’, and what you set free is your life purpose, which then flies and spreads in all directions, serving the world in a way unique to you…through your talents, skills or thoughts.

I’ve had professional goals, financial goals, travel goals, and fitness goals, but I still struggle to find life purpose…

Perhaps that’s what most seekers are seeking — Ways to connect with the world more deeply, more completely…and ultimately merge their consciousness with the collective consciousness.

Sometimes these words seem like mere language play, and you wish the answers would come more easily…in less abstract ways, with greater speed and clarity.

But nothing worth your while ever came easy… And that’s perhaps why seekers are constantly doing ‘tapasya’ or building fortitude.

They want to test how much further their bodies and minds can go. So, they push their limits, explore and connect some more, to discover that angel within them!

When I started Pink Pinjra, it was with the intention to set my angel free, and to showcase to the world how other creative individuals and thinkers set their angels free.

Today, as I stick to my craft, chipping — or editing — away all that emerges from me, I realise that the angel needs more time to take shape… But the process is on, and the chipping continues.

I also realise that it’s not just the craft that needs to be chipped at, but the personality as well.

As you keep working on yourself — letting go of old fears and beliefs, chipping away deeds or words that serve you no more, the contours of the angel get clearer.

Setting your angel free is thus not just a process, but a form of art…

One you have to pay close attention to, meditate on, and then act upon. Because, without the laborious work — of chipping away for hours — you will not come closer to your life purpose.

Our life work then, is not only for ourselves, but it is done in an attempt to serve the world better…

When I write, I don’t just express myself and comprehend life better, I also in some way echo the angst, fears and joys of many more.

When that happens, a process of healing begins, individually and collectively. And, as we heal together, we gain greater strength to look at the ginormous responsibility that is also called our ‘soul purpose’.

Only when we heal completely, are we ready to act on our soul purpose, or set our angels free.

But, when your angels are set free, they don’t come back… Because, when you lose your old self, you lose it for good!

Your new you cannot carry any weight from the past… It has to travel light. It is only through a certain lightness of being can it fly high, and soar into a field of limitless possibilities…

And, in that flight of freedom, you will seldom get an opportunity to look back.

It could take some a lifetime to find their true life purpose, and that’s probably what the journey is about!

But many of us fear setting the angel free, or knowing that we will never be the same again… We are afraid of seeing the brightness of our beings, like Marianne Williamson said:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.

The whole journey then is to chip away at the fear, to erase any darkness within us, and step out into the light of the vast open sky…

And, once we do fly high, as angels in the sky, we then begin to — slowly but surely — transform the impossible into the possible!

Pink Pinjra was conceptualised as a platform to showcase how creative expression can transform us, and shape us into beautiful people who positively impact the world.

If you are chipping away at your angel, and discovering your life purpose through a particular medium, do share with our readers your story…

It may just inspire many more to set their angels free!
