The 3 Keys to Thrive in Any Situation

A new routine, in a new environment, with new people and new ways of thinking, result in a lot of learning, but also a lot more adjusting.
My last two weeks in the ashram-like university have just about helped me settle down…sort of.
As I get used to the food, the long lectures and rigorous asana classes, my mind often wants to give up…
But, I’ve made a commitment to myself, and I’m going to try to keep it.
To keep this commitment, I’ve realised three attributes play a key role — ones I thought I had (in abundance), but, perhaps, I’m falling short of now!
The three main attributes that come into play in any new endeavour we undertake are:
Acceptance…‘It is what it is’
Our first job in any new situation is to first and foremost accept it… To know this is how it is, and to get ready to live it, and live it with grace.
Like everything in life, there will be two sides to everything…but it is up to us to see the positive as much as we can, and let go of the negatives — or perceived negatives — and stay optimistic.
Struggles can be turned around into challenges that can transform us, if we give them a creative twist!
Patience…Always pays
At the start of any new activity, we question what we’re doing, where it’s taking us, and what the end result is going to be. We want to get to point 10 on the scale before we’ve even reached point 5.
Patience is what helps us hold on to the process and trust it… It helps us take each day as it comes, knowing it will unfold a new story, new learning, new facet of our personality, and how we respond to the world.
To know patience is to know that everything happens in its own time… So, don’t hurry or worry!
Commitment…Stay at it
Commitment is a big word, and you can either be phobic of it or you can embrace it… Embracing it takes courage, as it demands you accept every aspect of that commitment — the good, the bad and everything in between.
When we begin to pursue something, every day is a new day — one day may make you feel high, and the other low. But, one needs to acknowledge all these moments, and bring to them the same level of commitment and grace.
More importantly, know that you are above those temporary fleeting moods and moments, capable of seeing the whole and being whole through it all.
Commitment is total involvement and acceptance…bringing your whole into every experience!
