The Happiness of Writing

I was a shy girl when I was much younger — afraid to talk too much, hesitant to open up to new people, and generally not very comfortable in unfamiliar environments…
Like most introverts, my favourite place was behind a book, where I could experience the world without much interaction, conversation, and conflict.
When you read, you don’t just escape the current reality, you also subconsciously start creating a reality of your own.
At such times, you realise that what you think is imagination can be real, and what is real can also be illusory or imaginary — when the two meet it becomes a field of huge possibility.
Reading is probably the first step to creating a new truth, and an unknown world for yourself… Your mind gets exposed to new thoughts and possibilities, in turn making you open to experiencing a different life with different possibilities.
So what is the role of writing then? Well, for people like me it’s a medium to express yourself… And through that expression comes many understandings about yourself and the life around you.
I’ve always felt happiest when I write…I get immersed in the act…there’s no one between me and my blank page and I can tell it what I like, unafraid of being judged…unafraid of criticism…unafraid of its final outcome…
Writing for me is sacred, it’s become a place of prayer and discovery… Every time I enter this space, I thank the universe for my ability of comprehension and awareness — and sometimes the lack of it.
And when I leave this sacred space, a new discovery dawns upon me…
The mode of enlightenment can come from the work you do too… It can also be the message deep down in your heart, which you wish to convey. And the minute that truth is out, something within you gains greater clarity.
Writing, like any other mode of expression, is hugely cathartic…It helps you resolve unresolved aspects of your being… And in that quest to find meaning for yourself, sometimes you impart meaning to others too.
Maybe that’s why writers and poets were always considered to be philosophers. Through their writing, they tried to decode life’s various puzzles, and in that decoding they helped others deal with their emotional and mental tangles too.
I read a beautiful line yesterday from the book Practicing Radical Honesty by Brad Blanton, in which he quotes a Hindu saying: ‘When you speak the truth long enough, your word becomes universal law.’
As a writer then, the deeper the truth you seek and express, the more your written word will resonate with others…eventually becoming universal.
For me writing is a happy act, because writing is an honest act… The more I talk about my views and feelings, the more in sync I become with the universe.
To express then is an act of catharsis first, and an act of happiness second. The more you get in touch with the spaces within you — some bright and happy, some dark and brooding — the more accurately you see the world around you.
Pink Pinjra is a space for expression, to understand yourself, to be yourself, and to simply do what makes you happy — even if it’s just writing.
So reach out to me, tell me your stories, and allow me to share them with the world… Together let’s make the world a richer and happier place!
And, as usual, if you like the story, share, recommend, follow or leave a comment below… Thank you!
