You’ve set your eyes on the goal of leadership. You know you want the income. You enjoy what you do and you want to share it with others. But, do you have what it takes to be a good leader? Here is a quick check list of some important character traits you’ll find in every successful leader.

Passion: Do you really love what you do? Are you on fire for your product and for the opportunity of being a beauty consultant? Have you stepped back and looked at what change has occurred in your life since you signed your agreement? Your passion should show through at your skin care parties and at every interview. Your passion is the magnet that draws people in. If you’re lacking passion think of what made you fall in love with MK in the first place. How did you feel the first time you tired the product? How did you feel when you first realized your dreams could come true? Make reminders of this for yourself so on the days that you feel tired, you can re-energize yourself with your very own passion.

Persistence: As cliche as it may sound, the idea of never giving up is truly what gets many to the leadership position they desire. Continuing to make phone calls when you really want to be done, following up with a customer just one more time, inviting a prospective recruit to a fashion show or unit meeting and doing the general ground work are what it takes to move up. Most MK directors will tell you that going through the qualification process is about the numbers. You have to be persistent with your customers and potential recruits, and you have to talk to a lot of people. Persistency isn’t rudeness or pushiness. Real professionals can be persistent with out making people uncomfortable or doing something they didn’t want to do. For advice on dialogs ask your director for a script on what to say when you’re following up.

Patience: Sometimes you have to go through a lot of “no’s” before you get to a “yes.” Like earlier stated you have to have the patience to change what you need to change in your presentation or closing and just try again. Mostly you need to have patience with yourself. As they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Perseverance: One of my favorite definitions of perseverance is as follows. “Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing all of the hard work you already did.” ~Newt Gingrich. There is just no way around it, in order to be a great leader, you must persevere. What does that look like in your business? It means that you keep moving forward when you want to slow down. That might mean to continue to make phone calls until you book just one more party. It means you talk to every one at every party about how excited you are to be a beauty consultant, you share with every person how this opportunity could work for her. Perseverance is doing the “and then some.”

Positivity: No one wants to follow a negative leader. Your excitement, your enthusiasm is what will drive your team to success. The greatest and most successful leaders maintain a positive attitude even when they are feeling defeated. They continue to speak positive words and encourage others at all times. Positive leaders look for the good in every situation and help others before helping themselves.

Do you have what it takes to be a leader? If you need more information about leadership give your director a call. She is there to help and would love to guide you in the right direction.
