In July 2011, after two failed bids to host the Winter Olympic Games, Pyeongchang, South Korea was awarded the right to host this year’s 2018 Winter Olympics. Since the dawn of the Olympic Games in 1896 only 3 cities in Asia have held the honor of hosting the World’s Greatest Event.

Close to seven years of planning followed and during a long-awaited Opening Ceremony a computer virus dubbed “Olympic Destroyer” quickly brought local Internet and Television services down unexpectedly…

For 12 hours.

Olympic officials haven’t commented on who was behind it all but in the aftermath of the attack, researchers discovered that the malware payload included 44 usernames and passwords of Olympic staff members.

No one is exactly sure of what happened.

However, if the research findings become a true indication, they’ll likely resemble the familiar patterns that many recent cybersecurity breaches have experienced.

The overwhelming majority of security breaches are password related. Whether you’re a small business administrator or an IT Project Manager of the world’s greatest spectator event, security just might be hanging in the balance of a static 10-digit password…

Security and privacy are quickly becoming a relic of a time gone by.

Why? It simply shouldn’t be this way.

Companies like us believe that whether you’re an individual or part of a much larger organization, controlling your digital identity (and the unique and valuable properties that lie within) is a right that should not be taken for granted.

Feeling safe. Remember that? To not wonder or doubt…to feeling that peace of mind that instills a prevailing sense of true security? To having awareness of what your vulnerabilities are and where the threats might be coming from? To know that the steps you’ve taken and the investments you’ve made have you covered?

As the 2018 Winter Olympics brings the world’s nations together for a few weeks in February, cyber criminals maintain the audacity and motivation to command the headlines.
