The Yankees are giving back to the Bronx and the local community once again as they are hosting a holiday food drive at Yankee Stadium to help out and use their vast space for good in the holiday season.

Anyone who donates 40 pounds of non perishable food like canned goods, canned sauces and oatmeal will receive a voucher for two tickets to see a Yankees game during the upcoming 2024 season. The holiday food drive is presented by C-Town, Bravo and Krasdale.

The food drive was slated to take place from 10 am to 2 pm at Yankee Stadium’s Gate Two, which is right alongside Jerome Avenue. This entrance is adjacent to left field and you enter via Jerome Avenue and East 164th Street.

The Yankees have won 27 World Series championships. This holiday food drive is impressively the 29th holiday food drive, which means they have helped have a big impact on the community in the Bronx that surrounds the stadium for nearly three decades.

During the 2022 holiday food drive at Yankee Stadium, fans & Krasdale Foods donated a very impactful 103,430 pounds of food to support the Bronx community that very much helped those in need. The Yankees kicked off the food drive with a donation of over $99,000 of food from their partners that helped fight food insecurity in the neighborhoods surrounding Yankee Stadium.

Just like this year, the Yankees hosted last year’s events with NYC based grocery stores C-Town, Bravo supermarkets and Krasdale foods.

“We see the need on our end and that is why we are so focused on being able to participate and every year try to increase what we do,” Christopher Guzman, advertising director of Krasdale, said at the 2022 event. “During the holidays people need so much, especially in the Bronx. Being able to see the people come in and donate and participate, there are no words to be able to describe that during the holidays. It is amazing to be part of this.”

“By hosting a food drive, Yankees fans have a place to go and we are so appreciative of their support and we are happy to give the vouchers to a game next season,” Deborah Tymon, SVP of marketing for the Yankees, said at the 2022 food drive.

Fans who showed up do donate food and receive food got to see Harrison Bader at the 2022 food drive. He went to high school in the Bronx and was on the team the last two months of the 2022 season and then for most of the 2023 season until he was claimed off of waivers on August 31, 2023 by the Reds after being put on waivers on August 29, 2023 after struggling. Bader is known for his defense but for the most part did not hit enough during his time with the Yankees.

However, he did hit very well in the 2022 playoffs when he went 10–30 with five homers and nine RBI in nine games combined in the ALDS and ALCS. Bader was able to live out his childhood dream by playing for the team he rooted for when he was growing up a few miles from Yankee Stadium.

I am just very happy to be here,” Bader said at the 2022 Yankees Stadium food drive event. “The food drive is a win win for everybody involved. It is a great day in the Bronx and it is a great event. Food drives are immensely important for people in need. With the Yankees’ reach to bring a lot of food, it is a wonderful cause.”

It is great that the Yankees have continued do this holiday food drive for 29 years and it is likely that the food drive is much bigger in impact than the first few years that it happened. The Yankees give back throughout the year through their HOPE Week (helping others persevere and excel), their complimentary ticket program that helps those who might not otherwise attend games and their vast array of about 100 local community partners that they assist and donate to.

The Yankees are also very involved in education in New York City and helping and impact the future as they have a Yankees- City University of New York partnership that started in February of 2021, they have a STEM educational institute, they have their Stonewall Scholars Initiative, they have a Bronx Education All-Star Day, a very practical and impactful back to school supplies and bookbag distribution, a sport management mentoring program and a T-Mobile wifi program. Players on the team have helped on with the school supply giveaway and interacted with kids.

On May 11, 2022, as part of Bronx Education All-Star Day, over 10,000 students were recognized at Yankee Stadium during a pregame celebration for excelling in leadership, academics, teamwork and community service. In addition, all students, teachers, and DOE officials were invited to stay and enjoy that afternoon’s Yankees-Blue Jays game.

The Yankees partnered with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York to host three Back to School Resource Fairs, in which local residents were given these items in preparation for the new academic year.

The Yankees are also committed to supporting community-based organizations that provide positive recreational outlets for New York City youth. The Yankees have partnered with Special Olympics of New York, which provides training and competition for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and they have supported 8,400 athletes served in the Bronx program helping to provide programming and resources. As an added benefit, athletes and staff from the Bronx chapter of the Special Olympics got to enjoy a game in the Judge’s Chambers during the 2022 season.

The Yankees partner with community-based organizations to host events at Yankee Stadium and dedicate several millions of dollars in resources to support various outreach efforts that focus on providing positive educational, recreational and social outlets for New York City residents. The Yankees can be commended for doing this as they use their resource to help a wide variety of people.
