Editorial Best Practices

Do you want to get your content noticed on Pinterest? Here is your chance! Each month, Pinterest’s Editorial team curates a selection of the best Pinterest boards, to highlight on Spotlight — our editorial space on Pinterest’s home feed.

As top Pinners, we want to make sure you have the best opportunity to reach a larger audience on Pinterest.

Every two months we post our upcoming editorial themes and features (here on Medium) so you know what we’ve got in store for the following month. You can then pick out themes that particularly fit your passions, create new boards (or occasionally use existing ones) and submit them for consideration via this submissions form before the end-of-the-month deadline.

When creating boards, please make sure you keep in mind the following guidelines:

Boards

  • Specific and relevant to one of our editorial themes
  • Covering an emerging or existing trend in a unique way
  • Visually appealing, beautiful curation
  • If you are curating a shoppable board (including in-stock items you can buy) — think about a mix of cut outs and lifestyle / model imagery
  • Great cover image (with no text overlay)
  • Helpful board description
  • Authentic feel with diverse content sources (i.e. not just your site). We always recommend a mix of your own content plus others.
  • 40+ Pins

Pins

  • Rich Pins (learn more here)
  • Helpful, personal descriptions
  • Click through to valid page
  • Can use affiliate links which meet our policies

And when submitting your content, here are a few do’s and don’ts:

Do:

  • Keep an eye on our Spotlight space on Pinterest (in home feed), and Pinterest UK to get an idea of the kind of content people love
  • Think like a Pinner — make sure your content is relevant, helpful and inspiring for regular Pinterest users
  • Be authentic — only submit boards that you are truly passionate about, and which reflect your personal style
  • Feel free to share boards created by other Pinners — spread the Pinterest love!

Don’t:

  • Submit boards with the exact same board name as our editorial theme — instead, get creative and put your own personal spin on the topic
  • Add Pins to an existing board to try and fit it to a theme — it’s less likely to feel unique, or be appealing to users
  • Submit boards with generic board titles such as ‘Food’ or ‘Fashion’ — the more specific and unique your board the better
  • Submit boards for every single theme — it’s better to share one amazing board for a theme that best represents you

We try to feature as many of your submissions as we can, but please note we are not always able to use all boards. The best way to tell whether you’ve been featured is to make sure you’ve got a business account so you can keep an eye on your analytics (- you may not currently receive an individual notification).

Happy Pinning!
