On June 7th of 2024, Sir Charles, who grew up with friends and family in New York City and has created a name for himself with NYC stamped on it throughout his international community, permanently relocated out of New York City.

Upon hearing this news, the reactions that I receive vary. Some support my decision, adding that New York City is too expensive and congested. Most are shocked! Then they would ask me why, “why are you leaving New York City?”

Why are you leaving New York City?

To that, my automatic answer would be, “the City that I love does not love me back.” I would offer supporting details such as NYC is too expensive, my dating life in NYC sucks, I don’t feel like I have a community there, and that some other place, “the world,” is calling my name.

All of these reasons make sense. They make sense for why someone would leave a city — any city, for that matter. So, you would have little to no choice but to agree that this is an understandable reason for Sir Charles to leave. But after listing these reasons so many times to people, I realized they were just weak and empty excuses that I was making up. I was bullshitting myself.
