Since the demise of David Perlmutter, highlighting on Medium hasn’t been the same.

We all remember David — The Human Highlighter. Within minutes of your piece being published, the phantom would swoop down and highlight your piece like crazy.

David’s gone now. But to use up all those Stabilo Boss Highlighters that were ordered but never used, Medium Corp is introducing The Boredom Highlighter™.

This enables users to painlessly highlight passages of text they find boring, dull, or uninteresting. Sentences and paragraphs that aren’t worthy of the $5 or $15 membership they are paying.

So how would it work?

Let’s take Smillew Rahcuef’s latest piece and let the highlighter run wild in my hand.
