Irreverent as fuck
Would I Lie to You?
My new name for American politics. Or perhaps politics in general
The title of this piece is also one of my favourite TV shows in the UK. It has two teams competing to tell a story with a straight face while the other team has to decide if it is a lie or not. They get points for being correct. It’s hugely humorous.
It reminds me of US politics right now. Or politics around the world, generally. Has politics always been like this, or are modern generations able to fact-check and research better because of the internet?
The only difference between the show and politicians, is the politicians get to run countries and press buttons to activate nuclear warheads.
It’s really exciting. For someone.
It seems the era of entitlement has swept into politics and winning is not important, just so long as mummy says you won. We have reached the point where the pigeons have come home to roost, where everyone got a participation sticker and everyone won. In politics, therefore, there are no losers. And you can stay in power or throw your toys out your pram until someone agrees you shoulda/coulda/woulda won.
And there is always someone.
