Pixabay images have thousands downloads all over the world. It is really interesting how they are used. “A picture is worth a thousand of words”, and it is curious what do Pixabay photos inspire people for. Today we’ll see how one B&W Pixabay image is living in the web.

This is a photo by Jill Wellington — a portrait photographer in Michigan, USA. This is what she says about her photo:

This photo has almost 117-thousand downloads and I understand why. It’s such a simple photo, but meaningful for people all over the world as reading is a universal love.”

The photo was used as an illustration for dozens of articles about practically everything — marketing, reading, motivation articles, and etc.

And it is really interesting to know a story behind the picture. Jill says that there are so many fabulous photos on Pixabay and she often wonders about the stories behind them. How do the authors get the idea of the images? Why do they decide to share them at Pixabay? So Jill decided to tell us her story.

The Story behind the Photo

Jill is in passion with her work but as she says

“it usually means I shoot photos to meet the customer’s vision. I wanted to work on a photography project that pleased me”.

She is in love with 1950s vintage and she got the idea of series of images called “ Vintage Val” together with a gorgeous model she got acquainted at her hair salon. They have shot this series in every season for the past three years and it is highly fulfilling and honors her own artistic vision.

Jill adore color, and have always struggled to turn her portraits to black and white. She decided to challenge herself to shoot an entire Vintage Val session in black and white. The real Val loves to read and has a collection of vintage novels. So together they played with the idea of Vintage Val reading and of course Val would read in a fancy dress, pearls and high heels.

“I loved Val’s vintage books and stacked them up with my glasses on top to take a photo specifically to share on Pixabay! I first started sharing some of my photos on Pixabay because I wanted to give back for the lovely photos I had used in composite art. Soon, when I was out with my camera, I started looking for useful shots to specifically share on Pixabay. Sharing my photos with the world has become a passion for me. As people download and use these photos, the intended love multiplies like ripples in the ocean reaching all corners of the earth! That’s exactly what happened with this photo! It warms my heart…”
