One of the most beautiful things in life is that nobody is immune to mistakes. Even the most well-meaning, genuine, and respectful of people are prone to imperfections. This week, beloved video game publisher Electronic Arts learned that lesson in a major way.

“It was a humbling experience,” said one EA spokesperson, “With how well we had been treating our customers over the last few years, I guess we felt like we invincible.”

Much to everyone’s surprise, given their sparkly-clean reputation, it was discovered earlier this week that EA Sports had bleeped out the name of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick from rapper Big Sean’s song “Big Bank” song on the official Madden NFL 19 soundtrack.

The artist himself even took to twitter to voice his displeasure with the incident:

“We completely understand Big Sean’s reason for frustration…we really goofed on this one,” said one of the creative directors behind Madden NFL 19, “But we also want to make it clear that this was just a simple coding error and there were absolutely no political motives behind it.”

Honest mistakes are something that’s a part of life, and hopefully the wonderful folks at EA are able to make this a learning experience. The gaming community, and all other communities, are certainly rooting for them.
