That’s right, Playstation Nation, your favorite classics are coming back.

In a post from the Playstation Blog earlier this week, Senior Vice President of Playstation Worldwide Marketing Eric Lempel confirmed that the Playstation Classic mini-console would be releasing later this year for $99.99. The console will come pre-installed with 20 titles, with the 3 confirmed so far being Wild Arms, Tekken 3, and Final Fantasy VII.

Speaking to Eric Lempel, the executive explained that their strategy has been to create a product that curtails the demands of fans in as respectful a way as possible.

“We wanted to make something truly historic for Playstation, and what better than to give our fans a chance to play games already in the stages of being ported to other consoles?” says Lempel.

The announcement elicited mostly positive reactions and praise, but some fans have accused Sony of simply copying the idea from Nintendo’s NES and SNES classic console releases. Lempel addressed the criticism directly:

“We certainly admire our competitors at Nintendo for all they have done, and continue to do, for the gaming industry today. However, the belief that we are directly copying their ideas is simply false. If we had been doing as such, then we would have made sure there weren’t an adequate enough amount of units available.”

The Playstation Classic will launch this holiday season on December 3, 2018.
