Over the last few months, there have been a myriad of reports and new information to come out about future video game adaptations, including a new Halo TV series from Showtime, Henry Cavill being casted as Geralt of Rivia for Netflix’s live-action The Witcher series, and even the announcement of Detective Pikachu, the last of which many had obviously been anxiously anticipating for years.

Of course, video game adaptations have a checkered history of mediocrity and sometimes being so atrocious that they were classified as terrorist products with the purpose and capability of global catastrophe. Due to this, many have grown understandably pessimistic about any new announcements. One gaming fan, however, takes it to another level.

“There will never be a good video game film, or TV show, ever made,” says Brock Gluster, who was wearing his favorite Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 T-shirt at the time of us interviewing him. “You can never replicate that feeling of actually playing the game,” he says, “So, why bother trying? You never see niche properties jump to another medium anymore, it’s just too difficult and the interest isn’t there.”

Gluster goes on to explain that companies like Disney succeeded in their efforts because they looked away from the trends and tried to build upon something that hadn’t been given proper care beforehand. “They saw comic book characters had a following, so they carefully made sure to give those properties to extremely talented people.” says Cluster.

“You need to try adapting things with a rich history that haven’t been done before, that’s the key. And video games don’t have that.” Gluster concludes.
