It’s now been established that Medium is one of, if not, THE best platform for writing! You care about writing, they care about everything else. It simple like that! One of Medium’s strength is the scope of people you reach when you launch an article. The more followers you have on Medium, the more reading you will get. Increase your reach: That’s all matters!

At PixelMe, we are huge fans of Medium. It’s simple, beautiful and efficient if you want to build a community of readers! These are the stats from one of our article: “From Bali to our first 10 paying customers

We reached 2,000 readers for this post, without thinking about distribution! this is really cool, isn’t it? But what would be the most interesting part of this “reach” for a Saas product, would be the ability to target this audience 😉

Unfortunately, with Medium, you can’t retarget people who read your articles and moreover you can’t add any tracking code or retargeting pixels to your posts. 🤔 This is where PixelMe comes in 🎉

Retarget your Medium readers

For every article we are publishing on Medium, we are using PixelMe (what else?!) to embed a Facebook retargeting pixel (and other platforms) in every link contained in the post.

If you don’t know PixelMe yet? PixelMe is a URL shortener that embeds your retargeting pixels from Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin… into your links! 🎁 It’s really cool, isn’t it?

Step 1: Use a PixelMe link to share your article on Social Media

When you start sharing content on social media, you usually share a ton of articles that drive audience outside of your website. All the people who visited those websites might be a good target for your business. But most of the time it’s pretty challenging to target those visitors.(yes, like us, you probably don’t own Medium…🙈).
This where it becomes super interesting to embed your Facebook retargeting pixel in every links your share on social media. Every time someone will click on your links, he will be added to your custom audience.

211 clicks on my link!

When you share content on social media platforms, you will first reach your followers, but as soon as you’ll get some “Like”, “share” etc you’ll start reaching a larger audience. This is the power of social media, isn't’ it? As you’re redirecting all this traffic to medium, you won’t be able to target all these people anyway!

By adding a Facebook retargeting pixel in every link you share with PixelMe, your dream finally comes true! You can now target this audience for your Business. 😀

Step 2: Add Pixelized links in your article

For each link which is not redirecting to your website ( you can embed easily a pixel on our website), it’s a good idea to use a PixelMe link. So that every time a reader will click on it he will be added to your Facebook custom audience!

Don’t forget that, most of your readers will probably follow the links in your article but they most of the case will never come back 😭. So when they click on the link, it’s the perfect timing to add them into your Facebook custom audience!

Step 3: Create your Facebook custom audience

The most interesting part of that step is that you’ll be able to create Ads campaign for your total pixel audience of just the ones who saw a particular link. If you create an Ads just for one URL, your custom audience will be ultra targeted! Which means the price will be super low and the click-through rate super high 🔥

In your Facebook dashboard, in the pixel tab, create a new custom audience like this:

In this example, we’ve selected all the URLs that drove our traffic to our post “From Bali to our first 10 paying customers”.

Just a friendly reminder for Facebook custom Audience: 🤠

  • You need at least 20 people to create a custom audience.
  • It can take up to 24 hours to Facebook to populate a custom audience.

Step 4: launch your Ad campaign

Finally, it’s time to launch your Ads based on the previous custom audience you’ve just created. To do that you have to filter in by the name of your previous custom audience.

Et Voila! 🙌
