Web building process has been upside down for a decade

After more than 10 years of experience in web design industry, I’m very familiar with people’s approach to creating a website. If I simplify the whole process, we could sum up the common way of building a website into 4 steps:

  1. “I want to have a website” decision & its first draft scribbled on the piece of paper;
  2. Choosing the layout template;
  3. Building the website (technical side of matter);
  4. Adding a content.

People are so used to these steps that they can hardly imagine any other way. However, longer I think about it, less sense it makes.

Why should we rethink the traditional approach to building a website? I’ll tell you here: The way I see it — future of web design.
