With everything that’s happening in the world right now, traveling isn’t on anyone’s to-do list. Fortunately, nothing lasts forever, and when the world returns to normal, plans will be made and sights will be seen. One such place worth visiting will be Málaga, a port city on the southern coast of Spain. Known for its beach resorts and high-rise hotels, the city is watched over by the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro, two massive historic citadels.

Here are 8 things you won’t want to miss in Málaga, Spain.

PICASSO MUSEUM

The Museo Picasso Málaga opened in 2003 in the Buenavista Palace. Located in Picasso’s home town, this museum showcases 285 works of art donated by the family of the famous artist. The entire museum consists of the original palace as well as what were surrounding properties that the museum’s architect, Richard Gluckman, bought.

INTERACTIVE MUSIC MUSEUM

The Museo Interactivo de la Música Málaga — or MIMMA — is located in Málaga’s historic centre and is home to one of the largest private collections of musical instruments in Europe. Over 400 instruments are on display, and help from advanced technology makes the experience as interactive as possible. Unlike most other museums, guests are encouraged to play the instruments, and weekend activities for children cover everything from theatre to storytelling.

PLAYA DE LA MALAGUETA

When visiting a coastal town, what’s one of the first things that come to mind? The beach, of course! With a gorgeous view of the Mediterranean Sea, and 19 restaurants less than half a mile from the shore, Playa de la Malagueta has much to offer.

PLAYAMAR

Another beach in Málaga, Playamar is located in the Torremolinos area, and boasts no less than 51 nearby restaurants along with opportunities for things like jet skiing and pedal boating. Visitors staying in the Playamar apartment complex will appreciate the campus’ two pools, garden, and welcoming pet policy.

CUEVA DEL TESORO

Treasure Cave is a special place: the only known marine cave in Europe, with the other two in Asia and Central America. It hosts year-round guided tours, and is said to have famous treasure hidden somewhere inside.

ALCUZA PEAK

Do you want a bird’s-eye view of Málaga? Look no further than Alcuza Peak, which has trails for walking, hiking, and mountain biking. Views from the top include Málaga and the sea to the south, and La Sierra de Mijas and Sierra de las Nieves to the west.

LA ALACENA DE FRANCIS

No future travel itinerary would be complete without a few pit stops along the way. This popular restaurant serves both Spanish and Russian cuisine. Kid-friendly and family-run, La Alacena de Francis is definitely a place worth visiting.

BLOSSOM

Known for its cute atmosphere, friendly staff, and, of course, delicious food, Blossom is rated third on Tripadvisor’s list of over 2,000 restaurants in Málaga. Many of the reviews sing praises to Blossom’s Argentinian chef, Emi Schobert, and his skill.
