In 2022, PIX Moving founded the DeAuto community powered by PIX ultra-skateboard chassis platform to empower the technology diversity driven by open innovation. The first DeAuto Hackathon practice has drawn to a satisfactory end in July where pioneers from 11 countries have witnessed the 1st “decentralized auto making” revolution in the Metaverse for the very first time in the 100-year history of the automotive industry.

Community-driven Smart Vehicle Designs from DeAuto Participants

Now one month after the historical event, the heat keeps sparkling which is turning into a magnificent firework igniting the path to decentralized automotive/robotics revolution.

For the past 40 days, DeAuto Hackathon vision and the final community-driven workpieces from DeAuto participants have been covered by 60+ like-minded writers, bloggers and media outlets around the globe, the accumulated impressions went beyond 5 million and the languages range from English, Chinese to Japanese and Italian.

Coverage from all around the world

The media outlets include China’s top venture capital media Huxiu, technology media Qbitai and Autor, also global media like AutomotiveWorld, DesignBoom and individual KOLs with millions of followers on Instagram.

We are already beginning to see the metaverse’s ability to influence how cars are designed and manufactured. Today, it is possible to design a car in the metaverse and produce it in the real world — and to do so in a decentralised manner. In fact, Chinese smart car development and manufacturing company PIX Moving is known for holding hackathons to advance ways to develop, manufacture, and apply self-driving technologies.

In 2022, PIX Moving held a DeAuto Hackathon (Decentralised Auto Hackathon), in which collaborators used VR and the metaverse to build a mini passenger car suitable for production. Further, to protect the creative rights of the participants, PIX Moving also set to confirm the NFT rights of the entrants.

Among all the the collections, the L7e smart vehicle design from Artem Smirnov, one of the participants of DeAuto Hackathon, has aroused major attention and exposure in the design and automotive sectors. The distinctive V-shaped boomerang-style vehicle for urban mobility has appeared in numerous media outlets with organic viral traffic of global exposure.

Artem Smirnov is a talented car designer and industrial designer from Minsk Belarus. For the past several years, Artem has designed and created tons of iconic smart mobility designs ranging from autonomous driving vehicle, motorcycles, next-gen EV to classic automobiles. Artem seeks innovation and a sense of juicy in his designs. For PIX L7e design of the DeAuto Hackathon, Artem commented that team PIXEL’s goal is not to show a ready-made solution, but the direction and philosophy in design. “Many people can do well and difficult, but we try to do well and simple”.

Designboom, the most popular design community, commented on Artem’s design:

Thanks to its unusual design, the concept automobile presents a modern playful feel, but it also looks rather sturdy. The PIX L7 sports a two-tone motif which shows a black exterior with silver and neon yellow trims. The dimensions appear appropriate for confined urban locations, and the decent ride height provides assurance for quick excursions outside of the city. Providing adequate protection from bumps along the way are tubular bars that also double as a cargo rack. The hood features a mounting point for a shovel, while the top holds an LED lightbar.

Autor, one of the top tech media in China, also wrote about their insights on Artem’s design:

“After a month of online sessions, DeAuto Hackathon has brought alive 9 design works. Besides the impressive workpieces from All in 3.0 and Omega teams, the unique design from Pixel team has greatly attracted us. The pixel-style design is highly distinctive.”

Huxiu, one of the most prominent business media, mentioned:

PIX Moving initiated DeAuto, a community not often heard of in the domestic automotive design industry. However, compared with the competitive results-driven developer competitions in China, large or small, DeAuto has one-of-a-kind hackathon mechanism and the achieved results are more significant than previously expected.

Not long ago, they released a bounty call in the community to openly solicit proposals for “Skateboard-chassis-based Smart Vehicle Design”. Though convinced that there might be super talented people in startups and small communities, I remain highly skeptical of DeAuto’s impact in the industry.

Nevertheless, when Angelo, the founder and CEO of PIX Moving, showed me the 10 vehicle design works from the participants of the community, I was deeply impressed and my prejudice judgement disappeared immediately at that moment

The design level of most participants are top-notch.

The Belarusian designer(Artem Smirnov) ’s work is extremely unique, matching to the excellent concept cars launched by the auto giants at CES.

Global exposure of PIX L7 design from DeAuto Hackathon

The unexpected acceptance of the radically-designed Tesla Cybertruck opened the door for similar design concept cars, but not copies. With the Cybertruck’s Franz Von Holzhausen-designed simplistic, yet bold looks, other designers will undoubtedly be exploring different ideas for taking basic shapes, like the Cybertruck’s triangular theme, and applying them to vehicles. That is what we see in designer Artem Smirnov’s boomerang-shaped PIX-L7 EV.” written by Motorbiscuit, the automotive news media from the US.

The organic traffic triggered by DeAuto Hackathon has proved the impact and connections between the DeAutoers and the value-sharing visionaries scattered in every corner of the world. DeAuto will be a continuous adventure driven by DAO and web 3.0 approach, with dedication to decentralized automotive/robotics production empowered by community and open innovation. The second DeAuto Hackathon will be launched in September, targeting to design and gameficate the world’s first auto-making workshop in the metaverse.

DeAuto envisions an robotics/automotive community where the privacy and data of vehicles and robotics products are protected and owned by the individuals, where low-carbon manufacturing, democratic technology and user-participated creation are treated as the core values.

This time, DeAuto is initiated to drive the revolution.
