Fucking Simple Ingredients x 2

ideas, drawn with passion

The pressure.
Do you feel it too?
Social, today’s street corner drug dealer.
Rampant like crack in the 90s.
Everyone’s at it.
Writing.
Sharing.
Posting.
Thoughts.
Ideas, pouring out in posts on Linkedbin, Medium, Substack.
Podcasts, aplenty.
Vodasts(?) to watch, but attention drifts.
Bookmarked, with intention.
Saved post.
Read later (never).
Mind wonders, like a river rapid.
Tabs open like jars of penny sweets in a sweet shop.
Focus.
Body tenses, twitches with caffeine induced necessity to say something.
Write something clever.
Profound.
About design or branding or anything you useless fuck.
Write that thing about brand loyalty verses brand preference you started.
Save draft.
Close tab.
Yeah, that’s what I thought.
Who has the time? How do all of you manage it all? Consume everything.
Running a company, a home, school-run, doing the washing, emptying the dishwasher, ignoring the parents WhatsApp.
Exercise amidst all that?
When.
Find new work.
Win new work.
Stop.
Just write.
I am.
How’s it going?
Opens Twitter. No notifications.

I recently won a new account. 🎉
I earned it.
I worked hard to win the client.
We worked even harder to present round one.
Contrary to Imposter, it looked amazing and the clients loved it.
Shout out to copywriter, Hannah Layford.
Fuck you Imposter.
Calm resolve of post-presentation comedown.
Adrenaline drains like bath water down a plug hole.
Drip, drip.

We sell ideas.
You can’t:
Touch.
Smell.
Listen.
Or hold.

Based on:
Vision.
Instinct.
Data.
Insights.
Assumptions.

Presented with:
Confidence.
Assurance.
Humility.

It took me a long time to realise, I am a salesperson.
I should remind myself; not an unsuccessful salesperson.
But I don’t.
I like it, then;
I loath it.
Blow it up.
Start again.
Repeat.
Imposter says:
Are you sure?
Is that right?
Are you any good?
Do you know how to do this?
You can’t do this.

But you do.
You must.
With furious, frantic fervere.
With intent.
With knowledge.

What do you need to deliver?

1. Ideas

Sounds simple, right?
We’ve all got ideas.
Great.
Learn to articulate them, with (see 1.).
The people I like the most are ideas people.
Individuals who come to the table with suggestions, not problems.
You are not a problem maker.
You are an ideas person.
Always ideas.
Lots.
Ideas may or may not land.
Ideas delivered with passion are different.
Good or bad.
Ideas delivered with passion create discussion.
Questions.
Answers.
More ideas.
More discussion.
Don’t wait to be invited.
Go forth with ideas.

2. Passion

Whatever the project or brief, whatever the client in whichever sector, your ideas are only as good as the passion you burn to make them.

An idea not driven by your passion ain’t gonna cut it.
Passion’s not given.
You can’t expect it.
Passion is earned.

Sometimes it comes to you like a Mediterranean wave lapping at your toes.

Other times it requires your finest hunting skills.
Rest assured it’s there.
If you care to look.
So care, more.

Ideas and passion.

Find them.
Nurture them.
Let them breathe.
Make more.

THE END.
