Plan@ runs an experiment of a proof of concept household that provides most of the comfort related to urban lifestyle meanwhile, it aims to be sustainable and maximise resilience by operating in an islanding fashion with the least possible dependence of external grids.

In the experiment, a home monitoring and automation system work in parallel with a set of environmental sensors tracking and forecasting the availability of renewable sources. Machine learning methods are applied to best match the usage pattern of the household with the current and future availability of renewable sources by considering the available buffer capacity installed.

The experiment proves that total independence can be achieved by careful planning and with the management of local resources supported by state of the art technology.

By utilizing the learnings from the current experiment and by supervising forthcoming experiments at various location around the globe, Plan@ is working on to provide a verified simulation environment for communities and individuals to design their dependency and predict resiliency by taking into account the likely scenarios triggered by ongoing climate change.

The experiment runs at one of the temperate deciduous forests in central-Europe.
