PlanDail members’ mission with UN Sustainable Development Goals — SDG 1

In 2015, the United Nations member-states agreed that the world’s development would be based on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The official name is The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, also known as Agenda 2030. There are 17 goals, and they function as a framework and guidelines for how all countries, as well as local levels, should develop in order to eradicate poverty, reduce social and economic inequalities, and create sustainable daily life regarding climate and environment.

The Goal 1 is that there should be no poor humans in 2030 worldwide. This goal is seen as among the more important ones since several other goals, such as gender equality and climate transformation, are more complicated or impossible to achieve due to problems with poverty, social exclusion, and economic fears. At the moment, by different estimates and analyses, around 700 million people are living below the global poverty line of 1,90 US dollars per day. This number is even considered to be higher today due to the recent Covid-19 pandemic and the wars in Ukraine. Also, poverty exists even in the richer parts of the world as the USA and Canada, despite all existing public welfare institutions compared to many poorer nations in Africa.

When it comes to decentralized technology such as blockchain, there are several examples of how it can be used to contribute to poverty reduction and increased wealth around the world. Since blockchain functions as a decentralized database and distributed ledger, it can be used by private and public institutions regarding finance, payments, and employment. Thereby, blockchain can make it easier to conduct transparent and trustworthy cash transfers, crowdfunding campaigns and small and medium size business operations.

In PlanDail, we are using the Algorand blockchain to create a platform community where entrepreneurs, investors and businesses can meet, cooperate and facilitate environmental, social and inclusive projects. Our approach is to make it easier for people with ideas and dreams to make them become a practical reality around the world. We are aiming for this, especially in the global south, where poverty rates, lack of money, and critical infrastructure are often worse than in the global north.

Through decentralized business and cooperation, we want to enable more people to gain access to funding, make impact investments, and perform important projects that will contribute to SDG number 1 through social, ecological, and economic progress.
