The announcement of the all-DC all the time streaming service DC Universe was a dream come true for all the DC Comics fans. It came with promises to put the DC world’s movies, shows, comics all in one place. We took a first hand at this service as soon as it went live. After binging the shows for a month, we are at a better position to review and figure out whether its worth the price.

Its not a clear black or white, like the counter-parts of DC heroes and villains themselves, there’s a gray lying in the answer. If you’re looking forward to subscribing, there are some things you should totally consider.

Lets talk about the price. At the moment, you can either get it monthly at $7.99 or an yearly subscription of $74.99. With so many option taking away your wallet share anyway. Is this worthy even for a fan?

for fans of DC’s animated projects, this service is a jam-packed Batcave full of it all.

DC Universe has all the classics, Batman: The animated series, Superman: The animated series, all of the Justice League shows, Batman Beyond, Teen Titans, and most importantly, Young Justice. Not all of these shows have been available to stream before now. The only shows that we think are missing are The New Batman Adventures and The New Batman/Superman Adventures.

Talking about the animated films, most of them are there. So in case you feel like watching Baman:Ninja or Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, they’re available. Leaving aside the missing shows, the animated part of DC Universe is well represented.

Its not certain whether the shows will be exclusive to just the service with Titans having just finished one seasons and Young Justice being just launched. Titans featured some of the cast of Doom Patrol (an upcoming DC show) and it was brilliant. We have high hopes for Doom Patrol. There are also shows like Stargirl, Swamp Thing and the animated Harley Quinn project.

The DC Daily program which airs every weekday gives away a little to a lot of DC news. At its best, its like a fun Comic-Con panel that you don’t need to go out for.

The service is packed with birlliant animated films but the same isn’t true for live-action films. If you are looking to find every single DC-based film ever made, its not there. You’ve got the original four Superman films, the first four Batman films, the Supergirl film, and that’s about it.

The newer DCEU films (Wonder Woman, Justice League, etc.) are not there. It was noticed that a lot of films would come and go as they please which is another issue altogether.

The non original shows like Constantine, Lois and Clark, the original Wonder Woman, and a handful of others are available all the times.
Arrow does not exist here, and neither does Gotham. To see those, you’ll still need Netflix… or regular cable.

The platform advertised it in a way that showed it’ll have all the comics you’d ever want to read. Some classic edition of Batman or Green Lantern? Just tap the button and get reading!

It’s not like that.

For starters, you’re not getting a full library of comics. If there is a title available, its just the first issue of a series. There’s not an option to read more or even purchase more, but for that, you’ll still need your friendly local comic book shop. (You’ll also need more money)

There are some titles that are here in full and can be read in their entirety. Like Robin: Year One but not necessarily something you’d want to read.

If you’re a big DC enthusiast, you’re getting a grand amount of content for a fair price with DC Universe. If you’re a die-hard DC obsessive — you’ll love it more than Barry Allen loves playing with time.
