As above, so below — what I’ve been noticing.

Perhaps indicative of today’s Cancer New Moon was a desire for rest once I finished a major project on Monday — forgoing my usual weekly horoscope post for a shift into family and home…giving myself grace that next week is another week to hit the ground running.

Though, I still pushed, attending Fourth of July festivities on the Third despite my feeling ill and needing help. The event was at-capacity, though I don’t think the fire department was keeping record. Even the police weren’t manning the dangerous crossings of an over-populated environment. Nor were the bounce house professionals controlling how many kids bounced to their heart’s delight. Many children were injured, crying, or otherwise running amok in state of utter chaos.

Enter at your own risk was the message, with the musical act on stage taking the microphone between songs to declare yet another toddler whose parents were unaccounted for.

With Cancer, we are focused on the emotional security of home and family. Such values thrive in privacy, not in the public domain. And yet we were at a conflict of interest with the often-necessary need for traveling amid America’s national holiday. Holidays have become such work; vacations, the antithesis of restful.

The greater message of this new lunar cycle.

Today’s Cancer New Moon is at the bending of the lunar nodes, square to the North Node in Aries and South Node in Libra.

Our instincts are being pulled in a direction opposite our karmic journey, creating conflict and discomfort, yet spurring action and intuition.

The New Moon is a time for slow beginnings that often start with an intention. Given Luna’s comfort in her home sign of Cancer, this may come as a strong feeling of deep intuition that betrays the path we thought we were taking.

As I posed in my Capricorn Full Moon horoscope two weeks ago,

Returning to Cancerian roots, and relying on intuition versus the physical plane, will be handy. But this is going to require throwing away everything we thought we knew, and making a new home for what will inevitably bring us security.

Which infers that we may have outgrown our current home, which is the natural evolutionary progression of the ambitious, yet sensitive crab — so eloquently described by Steven Forrest in “The Book of Water,” of his Elements series.

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.

Lunations are always part of a deeper astrological story that relates to the modality involved.

Here, we have the Sun and Moon in Cancer in square to fellow cardinals Aries and Libra. Yet, Capricorn is the shadow and ever-present given the two Capricorn Full Moons we’ve been blessed with this summer. The second is more pertaining to this New Moon given its involvement in this lunar cycle.

As you might guess, if the first iteration of my Capricorn Full Moon horoscopes is, “If at first you don’t succeed,” then the second will be,

“Try, try again.”

Helpful to this cause is this Cancer New Moon’s building trine to Capricorn’s ruler, Saturn, who currently resides in Pisces.

Here, though it may seem counterintuitive, is an intuition that rest is the responsible thing to do. That we can accomplish more if we take that time to betray our independent ambitions and relationship obligations to attend to our bodies that need a nourishment far deeper than a vacation or holiday. That we aren’t useful to anyone, including ourselves, if we don’t do a factory reset every once in a while.

Mars in Taurus, in a sextile to both the New Moon and Saturn, reemphasizes the slower pace required to not only get the job done, but get it done right.

A wound reappears.

Also at this New Moon is a building Venus-Chiron square, inspiring us to build a foundation of home, relationships, and community that helps us feel capable, strong, and courageous — in response to a wound where we hadn’t felt those things.

Here, we’re conflicted by our needs for dependence at the risk of appearing less than independent. These seemingly opposites need not be; they can exist together harmoniously, but require conscious effort to integrate the layers of our humanness and greater humanity.

Cancer New Moon Horoscopes by Zodiacal Modality.

Cardinal signs — Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn.

Aries — Events may warrant action or reaction (if not proactivity) for the Cardinal signs for the next month. Because Mars is also in Taurus, Aries may be especially frustrated by the pace and the direction in which things seem to be headed. Though, it’s important to consider the bigger picture still has you front and center.

Cancer — Happy Birthday! There indeed remains a point and purpose to your natural inclinations, even if your intuitions don’t seem as trustworthy or in step with the universe currently. You have a responsibility to your mental and physical health that deserves attention — putting yourself first before all of your real and imagined obligations to others.

Libra — What part are you playing in your narrative of obstacles? You have opportunities to reframe the narrative, thinking more deeply and critically to derive profound truths about yourself and your relationship dynamics — so long as you take them and not let them slip by as you wallow in the perceived inability to get your own way.

Capricorn — Intuition is your friend. More conventional ways of learning, not so much. Reestablish your trust in the universe and in yourself while disregarding the noise that seems less than stable. New insights and ways of doing things abound, which may reveal themselves as you try again.

Fixed Signs — Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.

Taurus — Take what you want and leave the rest is your motto; keep internalizing this as events seek to disrupt your peace and security. You’ve the necessary motivation to do something about all this chaos, just make sure its origins do not rest in fear — but your values.

Leo — As we wait for our bodies to catch up with our minds, take heart that your ideas have a purpose, even if not so readily clear or embraced. Indeed, there remains plethora healing opportunities in sharing our divine light (even if the mood is less fun and games currently). Give yourself a pat on the back as you continue crafting your grand entrance.

Scorpio — Control the controllables, with leadership opportunities inherent in your aims for community and oneness. You can be the calm in the storm, steering the ship versus letting it steer you. Though, you may have to shift your traditional ways of showing wisdom and authority — humbling yourself along the way.

Aquarius — You’re feeling further out of your element than usual, which is to say that maybe you haven’t the tribe that you used to. Continue reaching out to see what, and who, will stick — the results might surprise you (and you love surprises!).

Mutable Signs — Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces.

Gemini — You have set an unrealistic pace, spreading yourself too thin in your boundless ambition and ideas. Deeper meaning is within reach, but you may need to reflect on some history in order to reach new conclusions. Outsiders remain a source of infinite wisdom for you.

Virgo — Self-care isn’t preventative; it’s appreciating yourself in the here and now, imperfections and all. Accept the sage wisdom of obstacles and authority; they needn’t be seen as a threat, but an ally to your endeavors — a necessary challenge that sparks further improvement.

Sagittarius — Freedom feels lost in the current whirlpool of emotions and work, of emotional and physical responsibilities. Don’t turn away from opportunities for joy. Instead, compromise with the universe to get your needs met while working toward the greater good.

Pisces—You’re experiencing growing pains, a natural reaction to shifting dreams. Don’t be discouraged by this, but instead, leave room for the recovery time you need to overlay goals atop your foundational values. Or else, you might start questioning yourself and begin feeling lost.
