How to fight with food waste in the Food Sector
The food waste has been the biggest headache in the food industry. It is not always possible to prepare a very wonderful portion of food to serve without any left after a day. There are now several apps that help the food industry to tackle food waste while engaging in CSR. Let’s see how food evolution goes!
1. Too Good to Go
As its name show, they help to sell the food which is just TOO GOOD TO GO! They are very active in eleven European countries, this app helps to combat the issue of waste by providing a platform for stores to sell their surplus produce at a reduced price. A bit like GREEN DISCOUNT!
2. OLIO
OLIO may be the most community-friendly platform!
OLIO helps to connect neighbours and local retailers so surplus food can be shared and not disposed of. This also works as a trading platform with other items on offer such as garden tools and kitchen appliances. This could be food nearing its sell-by date in local stores, spare home-grown vegetables, bread from your baker, or the groceries in your fridge when you go away and even non-food household items.
3. Karma
From the Michelin-starred Aquavit to Hummus Bros, Magpie and Detox Kitchen, this Swedish start-up allows consumers to discover unsold food from nearby restaurants, bars and cafés in London. They also work with a lot of chains such as Coco de Mama, LEON, notes, Blacksheep etc. By providing customer food with 50% off around the closing time, their clients experience growth after working with them.
Food waste is one of the most severe problems in the food sectors. While the process may generate quite some package waste to take away, it may be great if the customers can be encouraged to bring their containers.
